Need to deactivate..

Hello.

I need to deactivate windows XP in installing drivers itself for newly added hardware. I'm currently battling a conflict where I have need of this.

I don't know if it is possible to do, but I hope so.

Any help is appreciated.

Windows usually stores the drivers it will use for automatic installation in the \windows\inf folder; you can remove the conflicting drivers from there.
Alternately, you can also do driver roll backs to go back to the point before when a driver was installed. What sort of conflict are you battling, you can force Windows to use the driver you specify from the device manager properties for the device.

That is the problem. I can't use drivers at all - I have a malfunctioning graphics card which will freeze xp if the drivers are active/the card is active.

I don't have an onboard graphics card so that's not an option, so I have to use windows driverless and just barely functioning. My problem is, that in safe-mode there are certain options I cannot configure.

My graphics card is a goner, and a new one will arrive tomorrow.. But I want to set up my windows before it arrives, so I can save time on by doing it now. (Just reformatted)

So I can't do rollbacks or anything alike. Only thing is deactivating the automatic driver install. (Don't want to remove the drivers used for automatic updates, never know when they come in handy)

Have you tried booting in safe mode? Press F8 before the windows loading screen.

Sounds like she's been running in safe mode until her new graphics card arrives. You aren't going to be able to (shouldn't have to anyway) configure your new graphics card until you've plugged it in. Windows will detect it and install basic drivers, then you can jump online and download the latest drivers from the card mfr. If you're card is dead and you don't have onboard, you're lucky you can even get into safe mode
