Bios
Hi again
![]() I've recently set up a new hard drive on my computer and I got some help because I couldn't start up from the windows cd. I was told that in order to boot up from my windows cd to install it on my hard drive (because there wasn't anything on my hard drive to boot from yet) to go into BIOS? or CBIOS? and change the HDD 1, HDD 2 setting to CD-ROM. I did that and after installing windows on the hard drive I changed the settings to HDD 1- Hard Drive, HDD 2 - CD-Rom and HDD3 - Floppy without being told whether this was the correct setting. Can anyone tell me whether I should change it or not? |

You did it just about right. The system will now start on the hard disk first. This saves some seconds of boot time because the floppy and cdrom never get searched for a bootable medium. If you want it to seek the floppy and the cdrom first, put them as HDD1 or HDD2 and the hard drive as HDD3. But that would only be necessary if you had to boot from the floppy/cd (like for installing Windows or using a boot floppy), so just leave things as they are now, and just make sure you remember how to change them again if you ever want to reinstall Windows.
