win98se format glitch - help please
I just reformatted my wifes PC and everything went well until the format was complete. At the A:/ prompt I typed in, cd d: to change the directory to the cd player so I could instal windows but it goes back to a:/ The following is what I get:
A:/cd d: D:/ A:/ (it does the same for drive e: which is the dvd player) Cannot figure out why it will not change to drive d: which is the CD Prior to the format I made a brand new boot disk from tools\mtsutil\fat32ebd\fat32ebd.exe on the win98se CD to ensure I had the CD drivers on the bootdisk. On boot up of the bootdisk it shows both the CD player and the DVD player, one as drive D and the other as drive E. I have formatted this drive 3 times in the past three years without any problems. Does anyone know what may be wrong and how I can get it to change to the cd drive so I can instal windows. My wife is going to nag the hell out of me until her puter is running again. So, please, please, please.......help!

Drop the "cd" -- that just means "change directory"
You want to go to the drive itself, so just type in: a:\>d: and you'll go there HTH TwoRails |

Why don't you just boot with the Windows CD to install Windows?

The effect you got is because cd (Change Directory) has a second function if you use a drive letter as parameter instead of a path, it will then show you the current directory of that drive. That's why it displayed "D:\" and why you got back on A:\
