Angry Easy Cleaner and Help

Previously I had installed Easy Cleaner on my new VAIO that has WinXP. After I had installed it I had heard that Easy Clean could wipe out the help function of WinXP. Is that so? I have No help files whatsoever and needles to say I did not get a CD of WinXP with the purchase. How can I get my help function back? Hopeless in Lompoc...........

I have EasyCleaner, and have used it, and I still have the help feature for WindowsXP.

Easy Cleaner

That is great that you did not lose it but do you know of a fix to get it back? I think someone out there has used it.

Thanks,

Don

I did the same thing when I first installed easy cleaner.Open easy cleaner go to options and there it will tell you where you can undo any changes, you may try folder C:\Program Files\ToniArts\EasyCleaner\Undo\ .Go there and undo the action, and then to use4 easy cleaner in the future make sure in the registry cleaner section before you clean up to typr the word Help in the skip box before you run the program.Hope this helps.

In the undo section there is not a referance to help anywhere. I think that i may have caused the harm with the previous version of Easy Cleaner which was working great until WinXP. Thanks for the help

When trying as you suggested my Norton virus caught a virus in the download and of course I did not open it. Was this a nasty trick?

The file is a REG EDIT. Did your AV declare a reg edit file a VIRUS? It's a reg edit to restore the help and support files.

Doug Knox has been a reliable source for things for me for years. I downloaded that exact file and it has never been noted as a virus by anything that has scanned my computer.

Sorry Ray. Maybe it once was a .reg file, but the page you linked to only contains a .vbs, Visual Basic Script file. Since .vbs was the original spread vector for email virusses (remember "I Love You" and "Melissa"), I'm not surprised that his virusscanner is suspicious of it. However I'm a programmer and I've gone through the file, and yes it's the genuine thing, a fix for the problems that Easy Cleaner created.

Go to program files>toniarts>easycleaner then double click undo folder, then select the .reg file right click on this file and select merge. Then try your help file again and see if it works. If this works the next time you run easycleaner and click on clean registry before you click on find, make sure you type the word Help in white box just below the buttons,so that way it will not mess with your help in the future.

What?

Ok I opened the file as suggested by RAYH in spite of the virus warning and it restored my help files! Thank you all for your help and patience! Of course when I use Easy Cleaner I will be sure to enter help in the do not touch space.

I was just a little sceptical when that warning came up.

Thanks,

Don
