SP2 for WinXP

Is the SP2 upgrade popup blocker going to block pop ups like when a web page has another page open in a new browser window? There are many pages out there written that way. I have a few out there myself.

Don

i don't think so cuz no popup blockers i've used have done that. if you rlly wanna take a load off, just use firefox it has a built in blocker if i'm not mistaken and will probably reduce the amount of spyware ur getting anyways

Yes, if you set it that way. Then, to open a window you have to control/click to open it.

I have sp2 installed on several rigs and have had no problems with any of them, and yes the pop up blocker is excellent and you can adjust it to your liking.

XP's popup blocker uses the standard Microsoft philosophy of block first ask questions later. It blocks pretty much all popup pages whether they popup via a click or by the page load. Kind of a dumb way of doing it since it seems like if you clicked on it, you do want it to open. The other thing that it doesn't do is block pop under pages. These are pages that will load when the page loads but they pop down out of focus.

I rather like the Microsoft style of preventing by default. If you want the blocked Window to open, it's easy enough.

That is a good security model to have in general. In this case, Microsoft's implentation is like it is in other areas. That is block those things that people want (a popup window that comes from a click) and allow things through that should be blocked (like the pop under window) that come in the back door. No big deal in this case just an annoyance.

Well I have never had a problem with IE's popup blocker. It works really good. I don't get the annoying popups anymore, and if I do want to see a popup, like a popup on pcmech when I get a PM, I set it up, and the popup blocker doesn't block it anymore.
