pretty much any password can be bypassed one way or another, but a more secure way than what you're doing is to set up a BIOS password. when your computer boots, press the delete key to access the menu. You should see a listing for setting up a password. Hope that helps.

where did you set the password? When you have a password on win2k there shouldnt be anyway to bypass it (well any easy way).

it sounds like he just used a user login password. Those are very easy to bypass

On Windows 98, yes. Not on Windows 2K.

How many users do you have set up on the PC? Do you have it set up to automatically log in one user?

There are only 2 people who use my computer.
What happens is when I start windows 2000;
i am presented with the Windows dialog box where i supply a user name and password.
Only after I provide the correct password will Windows start.
HOwever, instead of providing a user name and password when the dialog box appears, if I simply press the reset button, the computer will reboot and then when it starts up again it does not display the windows dialog box , it just starts right up. I do not have to enter a username or password.

Wow that is certainly not supposed to happen. Do you have a valid administrator password?
It seems to me that you have an autologon set on the system (why it doesnt happen the first time around I don't know) Do you have any user set to autologin?
Try this:
Go to Control Panel > Users & Passwords:
Verify that the setting: Users must enter a username and password to use the computer is checked
In the advanced tab: check mark Require users to press CTRL+ALT+DEL before logging on.
Open your registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Do you have any of these keys:
"AutoAdminLogon", "AutoLogonCount", "DefaultDomainName", "DefaultUserName" or "DefaultPassword"
?
