start menu question
sometimes when i open a program, and exit it and press the start button right away, the start button will look like that it is pressed (cuz its darker) but the menu doesn't come out until after a few sec. do u guys think that this is because the hard drive is a little bit slow. sorry for talking about these small glitches, i guess i am just a little paranoid

mine does that too, also when i first boot up, and try to go to MY Connections it's not there, then it is but my dsl connection isnt listed, then it is but when i click on it it takes awhile for it to load the connect window. i recently (clean) installed xp pro ce, and this is when the problem started.
i believe it is an issue with the ram speed though, not hard drive speed. not too sure about that though...lol if anyone can help, please do! |

Understanding your computer is just as important as optmizing it; if you do not understand the limitations of your computer, you'd end up spending more than your usage just to iron out minor visual annoyances. Let's assume that you closed a rather large sized program; typically now that the program is off the RAM, now you've got Windows hurrying up to redraw your desktop and contents while trying to empty out the disk cache, and trying to redraw the screen while still keeping track of background processes, minimized programs and then load up the Start menu onto the active memory. Sure a lot of us will try to offer you blanket solutions like stick in more RAM, use a dedicated video card, but ultimately it's your decision to give your system a fair assessment - what is the performance you are getting for your 256MB RAM; is the performance based on the onboard video card that you've got a reasonable amount - do you use your computer for more graphics intensive activities? Is the wait time excruciating that it goes beyond system limitations and is now a system bug? |
