usually the cause of these is due to an improperly loading Virtual device driver (Vxd). If its happening in safe mode, you may have to restore the registry using an emergency boot disk. what operating system is he using?

my bad... Didn't see that in the title. I'm using win2k, so i'm not entirely sure if using the xp disk will work. In the other windows OS's, this is usually solved using an emergancy boot floppy. Anyone know the answer for sure?
