easiest way to format hard drive/reinstall xp?

My friend wants to format his hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. Is there a way to do this with just the Windows XP install cd?

The way I've done this in the past is:
Create a windows 98 boot disk with Cdrom support.
(Microsoft's site has utility that creates xp setup boot disks - 6 of them - why do you need 6 disks? Is this better than the one windows 98 boot disk?)

boot the computer.
change drive to c:\
format c:\
change drive to d:\
type setup.exe
Windows XP installs!

is there an easier way?

Thanks for the help!

Just boot with the XP CD. You may have to add the CDROM to the boot devices list in the BIOS.

You can format the drive in XP's setup.
