XP ASR Error
Whenever I try to run XP's Automated System Recovery wizard, and it comes time to insert a floppy disk or writable CD so that the process may continue, I get the following error message: "The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted." I have tried numerous floppies and CD-R's, but to no effect. I am completely puzzled by this problem! I really want to make a full backup of my data before I even think about installing XP Service Pack 2. Is there anybody out there who can help? Thanks!

do you have xp home or pro as ASR only works with pro your best option is to make a normal backup on to cds or another hard drive if you have nero it has a good back up program with it or just use ms backup all so with the ASR back up you still have to reload windows from your cd first as its loading you are asked to incert the ASR floppy disk

Thanks, andyms18a. I have Win XP Home. I don't understand why Microsoft would include a feature that does not work in both versions of XP! That just doesn't make sense. Well, since I really don't have any choice, I will use MS backup and put my data on CD's....thanks again!

Hey andyms18a!
Now I'm trying to do a normal backup using the MS backup utility and I can't get it to write to any of my drives. It won't write to the floppy, CD-RW, or Zip drive!!! Instead I get the following error message: "The backup file name could not be used. Please ensure it is a valid path and that you have sufficient access." OK, the file name I'm using is E:\Sept2304.bkf (when I'm trying to use my CD burner, for example). I know I have sufficient access since I have a computer administrator account. And I know that the drives in question are working properly. So once again, I'm completely stumped (and frustrated!). So what could be wrong now? Thanks a lot! |

you need to save the backup to your hard drive first then copy it to cd or zip drive or do a google search for backup to cd for a lot of free and shairware progs which support direct backup to cd or zip
