Convincing someone...

I just built a new compter and I want to give my old one to my Dad. He is very nervous to get a new computer because he read bad things about XP when it first came out. He is about to go on a cable modem and that just scares him more. He doesnt know alot about anything besides AOL and he is scared for his privacy/safety of his computer. He is the type that needs to look at things on paper to believe them. I cannot seem to convince him that he needs to get off of 95. Does anyone know of any good articles/information on the subject, that will help me get him to upgrade?

I don't have a link to hand, but find one about how microsoft admitted that they did not do anything about security on 95, at all. Then find another one about the security features of SP2, show him both, and let him come to his own conclusions of the safety of 95.

Here is the closest piece of literature I could find that matches your request, Rigger.

http://www.bardon.com/wp_windows.htm

To summarize the relevant parts: "Windows XP/2000/NT can not be said to be 'very' secure, but the legacy versions are worse."

Hope the article helps out your argument.

You will still have the same security issues with W95 than with XP plus the other part that W9X is about the most insecure OS out there. Add to that the fact that many updates and programs aren't even available for 95. I would worry more about being on AOL than I would about running XP.

Yes, I am trying to tell him everyday to get off AOL. He will but he just likes to do research. But I want to play some Unreal Tournament with him so I wish he would hurry up! Thanks for the link
