Installing XP Pro, Help

My Dad wants me to put it on his laptop(for buisness). Will this put everything back to how it was when it left the factory, and will I need to back up his files?

Yes a format and install will zap his files and you will need to back them up to cdr for reinstall first.
If you are thinking of using the XP pro upgrade you should know that you may still end up doing a full format and reinstall so have the previous OS cd handy.
Before you do anything go over to the web site of the laptop manufacturer and read anything they have to say about switching your dad's model to XP.
