Incompatibility with Windows XP and Office 97

Hi I am working with an application that allows me to download to Excel.

I download successfully and when I try to open the Excel file, it causes an error and closes out Excel.

The OS I am on is Windows XP and I am using Office 97 products. Is there any known incompatibility with XP and Excel 97?

You sure it is downloading to that version of Excel, my wife has XP pro and .....hhmm, actually she just mentioned a day or two ago that she is having issues with office 97 and XP after she upgraded to SP2, I'd check with MS office site and see if there are any updates available....

Ive never had any problems with Windows XP SP1a and Office 97.

Do you have Windows XP SP2 installed?

You may be able to check the properties of the application or office 97 and see if it gives you an option to run in compatablilty mode with windows 98 or 95. I had an issue with an older software recently and had to do that to get it to run.

No. Software that doesn't access the hard drive directly (like defragment software, formatters etc.) have no relationship to NTFS, therefore can't be incompatible to it.

I am using Word 97 and the only problem I had was to install it on Windows XP SP2 RC-2. No problem with the final SP2. Haven't tried Excel, though.
