Windows XP Copy
It broke my heart to read that I can't even install my copy of Windows XP on two different machines even though I paid for it.
But I heard the second best option was to purchase one CD, and then two licenses, one for each machine. I'm wondering though is it possible to make an exact copy of the Windows XP CD so I can have one for both computers? Or do they have some sort of copy protection in place on them too like the COA. |

i had the same issue. microsoft really wants your money!
i'm pretty sure that a license costs roughly the same as a whole nother copy. as for copying your cd, theres prolly a program that will allow you to do it but as it is, i'm 99% sure there is a copyright protection on the cd. |

Don't see how it could break your heart when you bought a license to install it on one machine. People just got too used to be able to "not" follow the EULA and install single computer licensed software on as many machines as they wanted. Same sort of thing as when you get a speeding ticket 1 in a 1000 times you speed, you gripe about being 'caught' when all along you knew it was wrong. Now that the software comapny has figured out a way to make the EULA stick you call them greedy. Betcha if you owned lets say a car painting business and some one brought in a car for a new paint job you'd turn them away when they brougt in their second car when they claimed "But I paid to have my car painted and 'this' is my other car"

You can make a back up copy of your Windows XP CD, I do believe that the EULA states that you can make 1 copy for backup purposes. However, the backup CD that you would make would be just that, a BACKUP of the CD that you bought. It does not entitle you to use that CD to install XP on another machine, unless you have purchased another license to go along with it.

The Windows XP CD is not copy protected. You can just copy the contents to hard drive, extract the bootsector, and burn it.
And while you're at it slipstream SP2 into it. RJ
