Exclamation xp slows down

Hope someone can help me, I am running WinXP home, asus a78deluxe, athalon 2700 1 meg pc3200 memory. Windows tends to hick up, slow down for a minute or so, specially when running viedo or music, then it returns normally. Otherwise it is running normally. Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance....

Are you using windows media player? I have the same problem for XP Pro. I have my music library on a different pertition from the program file. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I'd like to know if there is any fixes for it. I just downloaded win media player 10 to see if that would fix it and it didn't work. The hickup seems to be like the computer it working too hard and running out of resources because even my mouse pointer freezes for a second. Very strange.
