Send a message via ICQ to RJ
Rightclick on "My Computer", select "Properties", there you go.

And of course you can see the CPU information during POST.

Only XP reports the speed there, RJ. I'm not aware of anyplace in 98 where you can get this information, you will probably need 3rd party software to get it.

glc's CPUID link is well-recommended. It gives more cpu info than most, too.

If you happen to be on a machine with a recent version of Microsoft's DirectX, and are running IE 5.5 or IE 6, for just the processor name and speed, it's on the first tab ("System") of the DirectX diagnostics in System Information. To get there: Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/System Information...and from the "Tools" menu, select "DirectX Diagnostic Tool". This works in Win98/Me/2000/XP.

CPUID will give much more info - the DX tool only reports model and speed.
. . . Gary

[if you not only wanted info about the processor, but about other devices, and perhaps some benchmarks and stress tests, SiSoft Sandra system analysis tools are pretty handy, and there's a free-for-personal-use version. It's over at http://www.sisoftware.co.uk]

[late edit: glc, RJ - have you noticed whether the info in the My Computer's properties box seems to vary from vendor to vendor? Seems like back in the original Pentium and K6-2 days the speed was sometimes listed, even in 98: but it might just be my foggy memory]
