Sounds like you have a spyware issue or you are getting Windows Messenger spam.
First, I would run Ad-Aware and Spybot-S&D. After that, you can go in and disable Windows Messenger. To do this, go to 'start' then 'run' then type in 'services.msc' without the '. Once the dialog box opens, scroll down to Messenger. Right click on it, then skip down to properties and left click. It will open another dialog box. Look here and it'll probably say under start-up 'automatic'. Change it to 'disable' and then manually stop it. For more information about this, you can visit Black Viper's site here and learn about some other things that you can shut down or disable that will help speed up things. Also, If you go to GRC.com, the home of SHIELDS UP!, there is a program there that will automatically disable Windows Messenger. Here is a link to the program called 'shoot the messenger'. Hope this helps. Scomac Last edited by scomac; 09-16-2004 at 11:28 AM. Reason: poor grammar in a paragraph |
