I am a newbie at this but I can tell you that BIOS states that its enabled. I have tried reinstalling the operating system but I still get automatic device find and the Install wizard doesn't find any plug&plays. I am lost. Please help. BTW I am trying to instal a NEC portable phone Modem and it doesn't use my driver files that I received with the phone.

Are you installing the drivers before plugging the phone in? Are the drivers compatible with your version of Windows? Did they come with installation instructions?

. . . is your device the new NEC wireless phone? [Look for the acronym GPRS on the label - "General Packet Radio Service"]. And it connects to a laptop or desktop PC via USB? If so, here are some manuals - for Windows XP: http://www.nechdm.com/downloads/GPRS-Win%20XP.pdf and for Windows ME: http://www.nechdm.com/downloads/GPRS-Win%20ME.pdf
It sounds like you haven't run any of the NEC USB setup yet. (I have the same questions as glc about your Windows version & what exactly you mean about the instructions when you mentioned "it doesn't use my driver files that I received with the phone". Did you try a driver disk & receive an error?) . . . Thanks...it just doesn't recognizze the phone when i plug it in according to direcetions given...tried 2 USB cables and nothing...never say "found new hardware" or anything. When I try to manually install them there is no USB device listed to install and the drivers that come from the website as well as the drivers that came with the phone it says " the specified location does not contain info about your device"...I am lost... i tried unistalling the root hubs and the controllers and then windows finds them automatically but not my NEC 525.

Try checking a few of the links below for clues, as well as the 2nd link I put in my first reply (the manual for Win9x/Me). The links below are to FAQs pages specifically for your model.
As glc mentioned, you must have the NEC plugged in before you attempt to install it's drivers [according to the manual] - [you'll need to point it to the "USB Tools" folder that you create when you download the NEC USB drivers]. And you must use an "NEC approved USB cable" - which sounds like it should be supplied when you purchased the phone. It's likely that just any old USB cable won't do (the plug on the phone end may well be proprietary, and sport specially made "retention clips"). Check in the FAQs and manual for info on the version of "Communication Manager" specific to your model and Windows version, as that factors in as well. http://awscs.lithium.com/attws/board...message.id=520 http://supportattws.primus.com/aws/s...20525%20Tether http://supportattws.primus.com/aws/r...+cable.#Goto28 It's probably just a missing step that's holding you up. Before you try again, though, why not remove everything from your first few tries & start fresh from the beginning. . . . Gary [P.S. ...and the USB devices in Device Manager weren't flagged, right?] Last edited by GaryRouth; 09-25-2004 at 10:58 PM. |

Oh yea Im completely familiar with the setup and I have a NEC USB cable bought from ATTWS...its just that the comp doesn't recognize the connection even after the install has been made either...I have had installed before and now it won't pick it up...Originally it did not find the device at all but then I bought the NEC version of the USB and it got it but it will only work that one time when it first recognized the device all the other attempts are failures

I had a similar problem with my USB hub, that is not recognized after I installed SP2 for XPPro. The working suggestion I got from glc was a new driver for my motherboard USB port.

We are now talking about motherboard chipset drivers. What brand/model is the motherboard? What version of Windows is on it?
