Question about deleting something from the registry.

Earlier this past summer when I reinstalled windows and then reinstalled AOL instant messenger, it installed a form of spyware called Viewpoint media player along with it. I uninstalled the Viewpoint media player from add/remove programs and then scanned with Ad-Aware and Spybot, neither picked up any spyware entries. Today I was browsing around in the registry and noticed that Viewpoint had left a few keys in there (only two I think). Is it safe to just delete these? I will not mess anything up by doing so correct? I don’t think I will but the registry is not something I really like to mess with. Thanks.

hmm, kind of hard to answer, depends on where the keys are....they are probably in the HKEY_Current)User/software sections right?

I'd follow the suggestions in this article http://www.pcmech.com/show/optimize/677/ about backing up the registry, delete the two and see if anything goes weird. I am willing to bet that the delete does nothing bad to the machine, but....caution is always a good thing in this regard.

The keys path is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Viewpoint and within the Viewpoint key there are two keys, (Default), Type REG_SZ and Application Path, Type REG_SZ.
