strange problem since sp2

I just noticed this recently. Since I installed sp2 I have this weird problem. When I am in Outlook and the pointer passes over the printer icon the program (outlook) hangs and then stops responding. I tried "repairing" outlook and that seemed to help for a little bit. Now it is happening again.
The printer is a Canon S600 and is networked through my desktop running win98se.
I've also scanned for viruses and spywarwe.

Seems like your first try would be to run the repair again. It does seem like a registry setting might be off and is causing some trouble -

If you haven't installed the latest patches for Outlook (is it Outlook 2000? - I think their latest Office Service Pack is SP3), you could try that as well. Visit the MS Office website for more info and links to the patches.

[. . . And I'm assuming the SP2 in your thread title is for XP's SP2, and not Office SP2].

[the other thing to check would be any firewall settings on the two machines - in case communication with the printer is getting blocked, and Outlook is left hanging]
