Failed network card install nightmare
I attempted to install a new PCI ethernet adapter recently. 1st time around the install failed. Second time the drivers installed and the device was recognised. Now whenever I load up I am faced with error messages along the lines of:
missing dfs.vxd, vredir.vxd and cannot load msnp32.dll I have found and extracted these files from win98 cd and put them in C:/windows/system but still get the message. I then tried to unistall the card as many similar posts point towards this action but to my suprise the (quite cheap) network card has no facility to uninstall, only to install or to reinstall. Needless to say running this makes no difference. I am at a loss. I'm sure its just a case of removing something from the registry but what from where? Thanks in advance |

You need to remove all networking components from Windows and reinstall them.
Go to add/remove programs, Windows setup, communications. Untick dialup networking. Then right click on Network Neighborhood, properties. Remove all components. Reboot, have your 98 CD and ethernet adapter drivers ready. |
