I Shut Down My computer one night, and the next morning, certain files on my first and second hard drive wont open! I cannot copy, move or open them. Some other files I can do whatever i want with. I have scanned my PC several times with Norton and SpyBot. I dont know what is wrong! Does anyone know how i can fix this so i can get my files back??

What were you doing prior to shutting down the computer?

What are the computer specs?

What operating system are you using?

My OS is XP

I have pentium 3.2 with 512 mb of 3200 RAM running at 400mhz
and a ATI Radeon 9800 256mb.

I wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary before the shutdown.

First thing I would try is replacing the IDE cable.

If the problem persists, you might want to go to the hard drive manufacturers web site and download the hard drive diagnostic utility and test the hard drives out.

If you have another computer available, try moving one of the hard drives to that computer and see if you can access your files.

If the problem is software related, try going to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and see if they have a solution.

I found something involving Encryption

I found that some of the files are encrypted. Would this affect anything?
