CPU crashing when playin game

Whenever I play this game online, like 5 minutes later the computer restarts auto. When done scanning the disk it goes to microsoft website about the CPU. It only happens when I play that game, when I don't play anything, it doesn't happen.

There are lots of smart people here who can help you but you need to post what the error message is (if you know it) and also what game you are playing. Also, post your system specs, i.e., cpu, how much memory, hd, video card, what version of windows you have and so forth.

The first thing I would do is check the website of the maker of the game to see if there are updates to the game. If there are none, I would then check their tech support faq about any known issues with the game and see if you can find your error/problem there.

Can you provide the microsoft link re cpu error that you mentioned in your first post?

First try turning off restart on error, Right Click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Settings (under Startup, the bottom one). Then uncheck restart on error. Now when this next happens is there a blue screen (bsod) with an error number on?

Explicit -

If you don't have a temperature monitor for that system, try downloading and installing SiSoft Sandra - which can run tests for various parts of your system. You'll want to look at the system temps, and you'll want to run the cpu stress tests. http://www.sisoftware.co.uk

And as antigross mentions, many games have forums specific to that game (a quick Google will yield the site). And as WhatsThisBoxFor mentions, do see if you can turn off the automatic restart (however it is worded). Post the error message here if you receive one.

Is that system still under warranty?

If you go to the motherboard section it will give you a temperature, for the processor, all the above says is the fan speed, which does seem a bit slow (but Sandra doesn't seem very accurate, it claims mine is 7500Rpm, but the fan is only rated at 3500Rpm). Maybe the fan is failing slightly?

That's what I thought, when I looked at the CPU Failing on the list. I don't know how to check which one is the fan.

What is the brand/wattage of the power supply? A failing power supply can cause those symptoms.

No, you will have to open the case and look at a label on the side of the PSU.

SiSoft Sandra usually is a large collection of tools: for many versions of the program, when you start it a window opens containing many icons. Each of these can test different things, in different ways. To stress the cpu, look for the tests under an icon such as "Processor" or "CPU", and some stress test collections are named "Burn-In". Click on the "Help" item up on the toolbar if you need details on anything: it has pretty good help files built right in. On of the tabs in Help is an Index, where you can type the word or phrase you're looking for & jump to that area of the Index.
