password protect shared folders
i have just been reading about password protecting shared folders and it kind of made sence but i would be very greatfull if someone could explain it to me
my os is win XP pro sp1 if u need any more info post what u need and ill find it thanx |

With Windows XP Pro, you can't really "password protect" shared folders. You can, however, prevent users from opening folders if you are using the NTFS filesystem.
If so, all you have to do is right-click on the folder you want to secure, select "Properties", and then go to the Security tab. From there, you can allow or deny access to that folder by any user or group. |

ok tried that but how do i do this accross a LAN (i probably should ahve made that clear at the start) i cant find the other computers

You will need to provide some more information about the LAN (how many computer, how are they connected, what OSs do they have, and so on).
If you can't even see the other computers in Network Neighborhood, make sure that they are all in the same Workgroup, and make sure you have all the necessary protocols and services installed. |

on the lan there is 2 pcs soon to be 3 each goes to a router (linksys if that helps) 100mbps
they all have xp pro one has an internet connection that is shared anything else? + all the pcs are visible in the 'my network places' |
