Windows Update - Not
The Windows update globe is in my task bar. When highlighted it states "downloading 0%" It is not downloading and I can not get it off the task bar. This just started happening a week ago.
Normally, I have the computer set up to let me know when there is a Windows update and I then confirm that I want to proceed. No settings have been changed. Any ideas? Any ideas on how to remove the icon from my taskbar? Thank you, |

That's how I had mine set and got the same thing. Do you have SP2?
I then downloaded SP2 and the download status of the taskbar icon moved along with the status of the other downloader that I started. So I think it might be trying to download SP2 by itself. Last edited by nubbler; 09-24-2004 at 10:37 AM. |

Think twice before you download SP2 though. A lot of programs need a patch before they work together with SP2
You might cause more harm than good. I personally haven't downlaoded it yet.

Right, find out if you want it first. But I havent noticed anything differnt besides that they added a couple of security features in the control panel. All my programs work alright http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=107037& http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=101267& Last edited by nubbler; 09-24-2004 at 11:29 AM. |

No, I do not have SP2. The icon just sits there, it is not downloading or asking me to download anything. Just odd.

Then when you go to the windows update site to get SP2, the progress of the icon will report the same as the one one that you opened to download it. So once you download SP2, it will leave, if you don't want to download SP2 yet, then just shut off automatic updates and the icon will leave.

I think it has something to do with all the new updates coming out are for XP with the SP2 incorporated. If you don't have it, the U/D icon will stay there till you do. It was in my systray since Monday, I was mulling over D/Ling sp2 until this aft. It disappeared once I updated.
Also now that I think of it, It was Monday evening when I got the U/D message for the D/L of the short version of sp2. I denied it, it never returned, but the Icon was there at -0- as long as the pile was connected to the net. |
