XP will only boot into Safe Mode due to networking error?

Hello, I'm having some probs with my system detailed in my sig below.

In my Mandrake 10 Linux dual boot, I turned off "start at boot" in a Network & Internet setting menu as I would advised on a Linux site that was how I would fix the "interface eth0 failed" error in Linux. When I then went to boot XP, I could only get into safe mode (aka no networking, which I assume is somehow the problem).

On the repair console on the XP CD, I ran "fixmbr" and "fixboot". That obviously means it boots straight to XP (not to Lilo first) but I still have the same problem. The normal XP just waits at the splash screen for a while and then reboots with no errors at all. "Load last good config" and system restore while in safe mode haven't done the job. Any ideas to save a clean re-install of XP? (I know that I can at least back up my files in safe mode but it would be a big inconveniance to have to re-load some of my programs).

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is just a guess........in safe mode go to system and delete all networking devices, see if XP will reinstall at boot up. .........could hammer your system ,or fix it , or nothing.

Other than that you have me tricked , hope it works!
