Can't Delete Some Files in directory - win2000
I have several subdirectories under
C:\Documents and Settings\ansclf\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files that I can not for the life of me delete. I've gone to IE and clicked on Delete All off Line Temporary Files. went to the directories and deleted each file in the subdirectories, until it says that I can't "accedd denied" Rebooted in SAFE MODE no network, went to the directories and tried again...no luck. Told Win2000 that I wanted to do a CheckDisk, rebooted and allowed it to do a full checkDisk....tried to delete the files...no luck. what next? I have a similar thing happening on my work XP box too. (different file names) how do I get rid of these files? |

Completely Deleting the Temporary Internet Files and index.dat
[XP\2K] Log on as Administrator and delete the desired (or log on as another user that has Administrator privileges) Example "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" Note: where "username" is the account or profile that you suspect is corrupt. Remember to delete the folder, not just the contents. A new "Content.IE5" and a set of random named sub-folders (4) and index.dat will be created on restart. You can not delete these folders from your own account. |

whaaaa, still can't delete these files
it is as if the MFT or whatever, is messed up.
I've rebooted in safe mode signed on as administrator, and still can't delete the files under \local settings\chris fauvel\temp\temporary interenet\.... if I click on the file and try to delete it, it just "dings" and doesn't delete. within the directories I delete as many files that I could, but for some reason these few files still persist. Chkdsk does nothing for the problem, though I thought it might. within cmd line, the files don't appear so I can't delete them using dos commands. is there some utility out there that can look at a lower level of the directory, could it be that visual representation of the directory is skewed, and if so how can I fix this? Thanks |
