Can I delete these directories in XP c:\winnt\

after you run the windows updates, windows places these directories under the %systemroot%winnt directory and in the "add/remove programs" section.

If I remove a particular update from the add/remove programs window, does it unapply the updates or does it just remove the temporary files for the update?

are these directories the temporary directory for the update and can they be safely deleted if satisfied with the update?

C:\WINNT\$NtServicePackUninstall$
C:\WINNT\$NtUninstallKB810217$
C:\WINNT\$NtUninstallKB817778$

I have quite a few of these, and they are taking up disk space.

I dump those files all the time. I believe that the ability to uninstall those files is lost if those hidden files are dumped.
