Nvida video drivers for win2000
I have this computer which I just upgraded to win 2000 and now I am having problems installing the video drivers I have downloaded the drivers from Nvida and have shut off the Virus protector and have shut off the firewall . Installed the drivers everything comes on color and size. When I turn off the computer it will start and the drivers are gone go to reinstall them and I remove the old drivers but am not sure am getting all the old drivers off as I had win 98 drivers on before. Anyway turn the computer off restart than do the drivers again and same thing happens the last time I did it the new hardware wizard came up and when I tried to do it says the drivers were installed but weren`t configured right. Is their anyone that can tell me how I may fix the problem have looked in all the information on drivers in the forums can`t seem to get the answer I need.
Would probably be best now if I did a complete install again so am hoping someone can help me. Thanks |

Specs on the system, how old is it, what other h/w is there?
If you just loaded the o/s, wipe the drive, reformat and load again. Image the drive with just the o/s (I hope you have 2 partitions on that drive if there is only one HDD in the box), then load sp4, then load DX9, then load the video drivers. test it as is, if there is still a problem, try a older version of the drivers. Which video card? |

The computer is an older one but it works pretty good .
I do not have access to the computer at moment but I have read so much on different forums abot people having problems with these drivers being installed on windows 2000. Anyway will find out more information for you about the computer unless it works when I try what you suggested. I only have the one partition so therefore you are saying that I should format and start over again. I presume that would be the easiest way I had all the downloads done but did not have the service pack 4 . Is all the information in the service pack 4 in the downloads for windows 2000. I think I had downloaded the DX9 before I put the video card drivers on. When I went into windows 2000 it had the upgraded driver listed so I downloaded it but since than I have downloaded it from the company as well. It is a geforce video can`t give you the rest of the information at this time. So my question is should I just reformat and start over again doing as per instructed by you. Do I have to be on the internet to use the sp4 if I get the disk. |

Gather ALL your drivers for ALL your hardware
D/L the whole sp4 AND DX9.0c (there are choices for this). If you d/l the whole file as oppose to just the 'setup' file you have it for future installs without d/l'ing it again. The file is complete. This is valiv IF you have DSL or cable modem. Don't try this with a dial-up, as the files is way to large. I ALWAYS partition the HDD ESPECIALLY if it is large enough. The 2nd partition is for storage, backups and in this case the image file (you can't store a image of a partition on the same partition). Order should be: O/S sp (4) DX9 video driver that's assuming you have nothing special as in SCSI cards etc. |

I would of said that, but one thing at a time for him. That's what I use all the time, what a time saver for a new install!

I've always reinstalled DirectX *after* installing a video driver.

Then why install it before the video driver and reinstall it again?
I have read that bgefore with older drivers (VIA chipsets) from a couple of years ago. I thought that was all over by now! |
