flash player not installing in xp pro sp2

I recently installed sp2 on my system. It now seems that when using IE v. 6, I'm unable to view sites requiring flash. These sites recommend installing "macromedia flash v. 7. Every time I attempt to download it, nothing happens. It tells you to wait for the cartoon to play, then you'll know it's installed. I also have Mozilla Firebird and it seem to be working fine. The flash sites were coming through in IE before the installation of sp2.

I turned off IE's popup blocker (I use a separate program). I also tried installing macromedia's flash player after shutting down my firewall temporarily. Still nothing happend. My thought is there's still some sort of filter on that I'm unaware of that may be preventing the flash player from downloading when using IE.

Any ideas on this??
