Slipstreaming problem

I asked this question in the sticky at the top of the page, but I think it was burried in all the other posts, so here goes.

I'm confused and need some help. I copied my XP CD and the full sp2 d/l from MS to my HD, and successfully combined them according to both of the slipstream links offered in this thread. I attempted burning a CD twice last night, and both times, (also occurring at different points into the burning) the program asked me to install my XPCD and then began cashing, (not sure what the heck that means, but I stopped the process.)
In neither of the (how to) links does it mention anything about this occurring during the burning process.

Also, in both links, one mentions the "volume label" as being e.g., "X" I'm guessing that is the *******_EN that shows up in the CD drive in the (My Computer) menu. However, the other link gives 4 or 5 different "?volume labels?", e.g.,(WXPOEM_EN) one of them matching your CD, which none of them do if I'm supposed to use the one on my CD drive.
Is the WXPOEM_EN the volume label? Any ideas on which I'm supposed to use, the one mentioned in the link or the one from the ******_EN showing on the CD drive?

Lastly, since early yesterday, the MS D/L icon has been in the taskbar with downloading updates -0-% for the duration of everyone's stay at the pile. This has never happened before.

I eventually will update my pile with sp2 as a down load, but after reading the problems some people are having, I think I'm going to buy and install an external HD and ghost the C:\ to it before incorporating sp2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try burning with the builtin XP applet, with Roxio, or Nero? Or? If you didn't have it set to "create an image on hard drive first" in whatever program you're using, try that.

Might as well turn off Automatic Updates for a bit, since it sounds like it's trying to download SP2 again (turn it back on afterwards).
. . . Gary

[P.S. ... and for your current installation, if you still have the full SP2 download on the hard drive, you can run it from there. The slipstream is really just for future use, mostly.]

I don't know what (builtin XP applet) is, but everything both of the slipstream links said to do and would happen did all the way up to the burning part. I have a Plextor 708a with the Roxio 6.0 software that came with it, (all current drivers and updates)

If you look at the Thurrott guide, in step 5 he says the name of his CD is "WXPVOL_EN but it is "WXPFFP_EN in project properties, He states that it is the name of the retail Win XP Pro CD. Is this where the discrepancy begins? In the Elder Geek guide it gives the names of 4 XP CDs, none of them match my CD XRMPOEM_EN

I don't know what you mean about creating an image on the hard drive, I don't recall that coming up on either of the links.

I did install the SP2 update from the full version I D/L'd and so far, everything seems to be working as well as it did before the install.

I did it I did it I did it! I feel like Herman Munster in a little school girl outfit!

I Dumped the first XP folder, (just in case) that was a pain, at first the pile wouldn't let me dump or rename it, because it was named XP, same with i386. I had to delete individual files and then had to restart, (not on purpose, I had to pick my daughter up from band). I then was able to delete the i386 folder leaving an empty XP folder. It's such a pain feeling incompetent

I started over and used the "Elder Geek" process, Out side of slightly different commands for moving, copying and integrating, the end result seemed the same.

A few things I noticed that are different, e,g, naming the MS corp.img file the renaming box showed up at a different spot during the process and that I had more files in my folder than the files shown in the examples.

I clicked explore and all the main folders and files are there. I noticed that the new CD is considerably larger than the original, only 13.** mbs left on a 700mb disc, YIKES!!!. When the CDrom ran it up, the Windows installation window appeared on screen. All I have to do now is try it out, I wonder who I can practice on??.
