Stop Pop Up Box on Start Up Of ME

Hi From Texas!

After 2 years , I had to re-install ME for Dad. I use XP on drive E: and Dad uses drive C: sidebar:[I bought XP on the same day it came in. My Dad does not like change and wanted ME to stay on the computer].----Anyway, I had to re-install ME (restore only-no format).Well , that password block comes up when Dad boots up. We have to X it out and go on. I just can't remember what to put in the SEARCH bar in order to knock out that pop up box. it was * something. Is what you do is to put that in SEARCH bar, click OK, and delete EVERYTHING in it. That does get rid of the ME password box. I did that years back.----Don

This article at aumha covers most of the bases: http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/nopwdlog.htm

The method you're thinking of is probably deleting the current password file (*.pwl) and rebooting. [This works if you've already set things to "Windows Logon" in the Control Panel "Network" applet. If you're not sure, check out the aumha article, which also has a link to the MS Knowledge Base article.]

Best of luck
