I want to do a clean install of XP and.....
I'm going to ask here without first looking around. Just lazy. I've sent and got the SP2, downloaded and burnt SP1, bought Autopatcher with all the updates through Aug. All that so I don't have to download using dialup. Now, I'm playing Far Cry. Can I burn my saved games to disc so I don't have to start over? How about DirectX 9.c which I just recently downloaded. If I have all that stuff just as it was downloaded I should be able to burn it all to disc right, and it will install? I use AVG. The process for activating it can be a pain. Waiting for their code # to come through email can take a day or two sometimes. Can I just drag and drop the file and burn it and will it work like that,, to just put in c:\ ? I guess what I'm asking is ,, when you download it, the wizard sets it up by just clicking the next button. Will it work if I put my burnt disc in the cd/rom and move it to the c drive? Same thing with the game. Once installed after the new install of XP, can I just copy the saved games from my disc and put them in the folder in the game and it will work? I don't know much about working with folders as you can see.

Not sure why you want/need to run a clean install, when there's so much you wish to save? If your machine is running OK, not receiving any strange errors or locking up, and scanning cleanly for malware, I don't see the advantage of a clean install.
If you want to go with SP2, check the software list (from the sticky thread near the top of this forum) to see if any of your favorite programs are on the list. If so, go to the support site for that software, and see if there's an SP2 patch for your program. If not, you may want to wait a bit before you go to SP2. I'm not sure how AVG would handle a reinstall: check on the grisoft website for a FAQ - I imagine they have one that covers that. . . . Gary |

AVG will reinstall fine as long as you use the ORIGINAL download (you did save it, right?) and license number - then it must be updated online.
