Well, my computer (running Windows 2000) is having a little blue-screen-o-death problem. Whenever I try to import a CD or install a program off of a CD, that oh-too familiar screen appears. I don't know if the message on there is always the same no matter the problem, but for me it says "Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal blah blah blah blah". I've tried running CD's off of both the main CD-drive and the 2nd drive in the accessory battery/CD-Drive/Floppy-Drive slot. (It's a laptop) The weird part is that it doesn't do it for all programs I install or CD's I import. Just today, I was re-installing Everquest and some expansions. 3 worked fine, but 2 crashed to that dreaded blue screen. Any ideas?

Also, do you have the most recent service pack for 2000? I don't know what that would be but I'm sure you could figure it out. Without more details (and my lack of experience with 2000, superficially it sounds like you have some kind of device conflict with your CD ROM and something else on your computer. Can someone here with more WIN2000 give a better solution? |

Driver issues. Download the latest drivers for all devices from the laptop manufacturer, get all critical Windows updates, install the latest DirectX.

Well, I got up today and decided to give the installs another go. Lo and behold, one fo the programs that insisted on crashing yesterday installed fine! So I figured maybe the other one would. Nope, no such luck. So I start writing down the error message, but it finished backing up all the the memory before I can write it all down. After Windows reboots I got at it again, and once again it crashes 5 seconds into install. I continue writing down the message, but once again, not enough time. Windows rfeboots again, but this time, the 3rd time I have tried to install it, it gets through all 3 CD's of install just fine. /boggle Anyways, I have installed all the critical updates and Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000, and that was before it kept crashing on the last program install.
Here'sw what I got down of the error message: ***Stop:0x000000D1 (0xDEADFAE2, 0x0000002, 0xEB6F37AB) Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal ***Address EB6F37AB base at EB6F0000, (This is as far as I got) Last edited by EQPlayer; 09-27-2004 at 01:40 PM. |

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;165863 Also, you may want to check your drivers. In XP, you can run 'verifier' under start, run, etc. I don't know if WIN 2000 has this feature. Verifier I believe can tell you which drivers are unsigned, etc. Maybe you can pinpoint the questionable driver this way. |

Well, I was just importing some new CD's I got onto iTunes. The first two I tried (Chevelle's 1st CD and Mae, if anyone cares) worked fine, but then I started uploading another (Chevelle's new CD) and it crashed on me. This time I managed to get the last part of the error.
***Stop:0x000000D1 (0xDEADFAE2, 0x0000002, 0xEB6F37AB) Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal ***Address EB6F37AB base at EB6F0000, DateStamp 3e5ffecb - openhci.sys Beginning dump of physiclal memory to disk - blah blah, you know the rest This is with all the latest Windows 2000 fixes and Service Pack 4. (I have 2000 Professional, if it matters) |

That's a USB issue. Please post exact model of notebook (we need to see what chipset the motherboard uses) and any USB and PCMCIA devices you have.

Microsoft Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 I have a bunch of USB stuff. In my 2 original USB slots I have a Power supply cord for a USB 2.0 card which I have installed in one of my expansion slots. Plugged into the back of the power-supply cord is the printer cord. (Hp Deskjet 3320) The 2nd slot is the power cord for my Tanarus laptop cool-mat thingie. In the USB 2.0 card I have the connection for my external sound-card (Creative Sound-Blaster Audigy 2 NX) The 2nd USB 2.0 card slot is empty. Last edited by EQPlayer; 09-27-2004 at 06:40 PM. |

Windows 2000 SP4 does support USB 2.0, but requires addon drivers - which CAN be tricky to install properly if the machine doesn't have native 2.0. Something USB is not playing nice, you just have to figure out which by process of elimination. I believe that the Latitude has an Intel chipset, so you aren't going to have any weird VIA or SiS bugs.
