well I have noticed that the system has gotten a heck of lot slower.
-windows that are open take for ever to close and/or not responding. -if left on for a long period of time the system freezes, and have to use the on off button to re-boot. -I tried running Norton Symantec, and spyware and a windows check up, but nothing. It seems as if thought something is hughing all the memory. please help.! |

Quick Fixes -
1) Uninstall SP2 from the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel, if all is suddenly fine, then wait a while before trying SP2 (one or more of your favorite programs' current versions are probably incompatible). 2) If you have a 3rd-party software firewall installed, be aware that the SP2 Update doesn't always correctly find it - and the SP2 "Windows Firewall" is enabled by default. You don't want to run two software firewalls on the same computer - if your 3rd party one works OK, disable the SP2 Windows Firewall. . . . Gary [P.S. . . . there's a chance that it's just a coincidence - watch for errors, and check your system temps just in case. And might run a few online scans - to double-check your local AV] Last edited by GaryRouth; 09-27-2004 at 03:40 PM. |

I did my spy and virus scans in safe mode. I heard it's more thorough that way

Research all your software and hardware (especially driver) compatibility before even thinking of applying it again. If you decide to try again, it must be done on a squeaky clean system - no viruses, no spyware. If you don't have any data to save - or you can back yours up easily, consider making a slipstreamed install CD, wipe the drive, and reinstall from scratch.
