windows me: no boot and system.ini file...

hey kids,

a buddy of mine had a problem with spyware recently so he decided to delete a whole bunch of files and programs on his computer. he gave me a call and told me that when he tries to boot his comp. now, it gives him an error message that his 'system.ini' file is missing. he does not have the windows me os disc. what can he do..or should i say...what can i do to restore his comp. back to normal?

i.t. ninja,
jsanchez

Try doing a system restore if you can get it into safe mode.

About the only other thing that will work is reinstall Windows over the top..........which means he'd better find his CD. Had to do just that on a 98SE box today where some system files got eaten.

Well with Windows 98SE a backup file usually exsists for the system.ini. Check the windows directory for system.i~i or system.bak and then rename one of them to system.ini and give it a try.
