shut down ?

When I click on the START button to shut down my laptop with win98se, The button presses but the PC locks up. I then hit the Alt, Ctrl, Delete and cancel Explorer, which is running. After a couple A,C,D, the pc restarts. What do I need to do to make this thing shut down normal?

What kind of background programs are you have running on that laptop? Have you tried disabling or turning them off before you shutdown?

Try looking here and see if anything helps.

I already have the shutdown patch. I was looking in the device mgr and found two monitors listed, which is incorrect, but I can't remove it. Windows just reinstalls it. I don't think that is the problem with shutdown anyway tho.

There is more to fixing the shutdown issue than just installing the patch. The web page in my link covers quite a number of other scenarios...have you looked at the whole page?

What kind of background programs are running on that PC?
