Im sharing a printer from my windows xp home machine but I cant see it on my windows xp pro laptop. My windows xp pro laptop is used for work and is part of a domain. My question is do I have to make my xp pro laptop part of of the workgroup my home machine is in for my laptop to be able to see it? I dont really want the hassle of having to rejoining the workgroup when I want to use my shared printer at home and then having to rejoin the domain when I want to go back to work. Is there a way to configure this so I wont have to?
Thanks, Ron |

Do you currently have a network setup at your home?
If you have run the networking wizard on your home machine and all the protocols are set correctly you should be able to see the laptop. Make sure you have the correct domain name on your home machine. You may have to get this information from your network administrator at work. |

XP Home is not capable of being a member of a domain - and besides, there is no domain controller to log into at his home. Yes, you have to use a workgroup model to do what you want.
I don't know if this will work, but try changing the workgroup name on your Home machine to the domain name. |

See if the information on this page is what you're looking for.
Once you've got the settings saved so you can run the command to change the network configuration, don't forget you'll need to install the printer software for the shared printer on the laptop. Last edited by Miz; 10-03-2004 at 11:56 AM. |

Sorry. I guess I didn't read the initial post correctly. I thought he was saying his XP machine AT home. I just assumed since he was talking about domains that it was running Pro.
