Is there some way I can put a timer on my PC so it turns off automatically?
Any software or something like that? TIA for your input.

i'm not sure about windows, but for linux, i believe that you could type "shutdown -h +5" for shutdown in five minutes, or "shutdown -h 20:01" for shutdown at 20:01. Also, if you want to restart instead of shutdown, you replace the "-h" with "-r". Try running "cmd" and typing that. Maybe it's similar/same for windows?

Ya.. it can be done... I used to have my WinME machines scheduled to reboot every morning at 7AM. I would have to dig around for the command for XP. (You're on XP right Nuke?)

for 5:00pm you may want to try 17:00 ie, military time.
That's what I had to do for the Task Scheduler stuff I was trying to sort out....... HTH The command works, but its about 9 am here right now, so I didn't have to deal with the am/pm---military time. Also replacing the -s with -r does a reboot instead of just a shutdown----nice feature after scheduled maintenance. Thanx for the command-line reference Cricket!
