almost ready to install xp

I should be getting my new drive back from WD soon.
Is there any advantage to having more than one partition on a 80gb drive.
My copy of xp is old and doesn't even have sp1. However I ordered the sp2 disk. Do I just load xp and then pop in the sp2 disk? Does it also have all the sp1 stuff? I also have the autopatcher disk with the updates through aug. Should it be installed first, after windows, before sp2?

Can one upgrade the motherboard, processor, and ram and still use the same copy of xp?

Load the XP disk first, then do all the drivers from the motherboard disk. Then add the SP2. Yes, just pop in the disk. If you are going to install SP2, you don't need any other updates before SP2. Check Windows Updates for releases after SP2 tho.

I like to partition all my XP installs when using an 80Gb hdd. Keeps the XP separate from the Programs and Files (2 separate partitions) and I like to use a small partition exclusively for the Page File. Here's a little something to read.

Setting up more than one partition may be over my head especially trying to do what you said in the latter part of your reply.

I have the autopatcher disk from autopatcher.com. It has all the updates through August. Should I install that before sp2?
