Win98 Add/Remove Program Problem
Background: I was running Windows 98 and had a C: D: and E: drive set up. On the E: drive I had my Battlefield 1942 game loaded. I then had to upgrade to Windows 98SE to get my new DVD-RW to function.
After the upgrade I realized the HD my E: drive resided on was not functioning correctly. I copied the Battlefield game over to my D: drive and removed the E: HD. I played a round of BF one night and it ran fine after the upgrade/drive switch. The next night Battlefield would start to load and then go to a black screen and freeze the system. I decided that I should try to re-install the game with all the fiddling that I had done. In a not-so-smart move, I deleted the Battlefield folder instead of un-installing the game properly. Shame on me and slap my hand! When I try to re-install the game now, my system thinks it is un-installing Battlefield and is looking for it on the non-existent E: drive that I removed. The best I could find on the internet was to delete the BF1942 registry key to remove it from the system and the Add/Remove Programs box. The problem - it is not listed in the registry where it should be (under EA games or a few other spots I checked). Any help or ideas to solve this problem would be wonderful! I need to erase any record of the old Battlefield game records so I can do a fresh re-install. Thank you. -BellaSun

You say that it is not listed in the registry where it is supposed to be, how about where it is not supposed to be. Have you done a search in the registry?, try a registry cleaner to see if that can find a rouge entry and a nice little utility is called MyUninstaller, I will see if I can find the link for it for you.
Ok quick update I found the link. You can get it here http://www.nirsoft.net/ click utilities and scroll down, it is there I just checked and it is freeware. Last edited by rjfvillarosa; 10-08-2004 at 03:19 PM. |
