SP2 and iexplore.exe
After trying to install SP2 both from a cd and a download I have problems.
SP2 could not complete the installtion in both cases because it could not find certain files. There is a choice to proceed without installing that file, There were several files like that. After a while it showed failer to install and proceeded to remove the installation. In doing so it caused my IE browser not to work as it could not find the iexplore.exe file. I found that file on another computer but I do not know where to place it on this computer. My browser only works because I have iexplore.exe file in a temp folder. It is not satisfactory. Long question but I know you have a simple answer. Yes I re-installed XP pro editon and that did not help. Thanks for your answer. Don

SP2 and iexplore
System restore asks me to pick a bold date but only shows todays date in bold. Cliking on the non bold dates does nothing. What next?
Thanks |

The reinstall went and killed all your previous restore points - so that's no longer an option. You may have to back up your data and do a clean XP install.

First try to install IE6 from a CD. It is available on many ISP CDs for free and is also is or at least was available for a few dollars from micro$oft.
If that doesnt work try an in-place upgrade. This resolves many issues. If that fails try a side by side install. This allows you to re-install windows in a seperate directory in the same partition. It doesn't wipe out your data. It should work in this case as internet explorer is not in the windows directory it will be installed in its own directory. Probably IE will work in both installs and you can always obliterate the new install if it works fine in the old one. Last resort is format and re-install everything. |
