SP2 in the sytem tray
In the system tray is an update of SP2 that has failed to install properly as mentioned in a previous thread. How do I remove this update so it no longer is on my computer. When opening the icon from the system tray there is no delete choice only install. I do not only wish to remove it from my system tray but from my hard drive. I know how to get around in the explore window but how do I identify where or which ones those install files are? As before I have the SP2 CD but it also failed to install properly and the removal caused the previously mentioned problem.

Hi,
Have you a copy of SP2 on a CD? Did you do a auto update from MS? I mean have to 'auto updates' enabled? Please let us know

If you have system restore turned on then I'd suggest going back to the point before you tried to load sp2 from auto updates.
Then pop in your sp2 CD & copy it to your hard drive. Run it from there. It will take some time to install but should be fine. I did it that way. Some here give out about system restore. I did too until an auto update of a sound card driver corrupted my PC. Now before any major install I set a restore point as it worked perfectly in the above situation. Took the PC back to a point prior to the install of the auto updated driver. See if there is a restore point prior to your install of sp2. Restore your PC to that point. You may lose settings that you have now as the PC will go to a previous state. Try this first. Do a restore point before you do though! Last edited by fredwest; 10-09-2004 at 05:42 PM. |

Do this at your own risk (have to say that)
![]() After a 'live Windows update', as far as I know, you should see a folder on the root of c: or d: (it depends where the install puts it) called 'WUTemp' and another folder with a long alpha-numeric name that you won't recognise as 'one of my folders'. They are not hidden and are always on the root of the drive ie; c:\WUTemp etc & c:\0qwe45rfr56dds....... This is just an example. Delete both of these if present. Reboot.
