Hi all,
I have noticed that my 'guest' account on XP Pro SP2 mysteriously enables itself from time to time. Every now and again during PC maintenance I just check out the accounts and there it is.....guest account 'enabled'. Since I've had XP on this box I reckon I've seen this same thing five or more times. I disable the account AGAIN and then at some future time, when I'm checking out the PC, I find it's been re-enabled AGAIN. I've given this account a password now cause I don't like this at all. I've Norton AV 2002, Zonealarm 5.X, Spybot & Ad-aware installed. However every now and then when I check this account is re-enabled We all need to be secure today but this is just crazy. If I disable an account I want it to stay that way. I can't delete the guest account but I'm working on trying to as this is ridiculous.... Has anyone any ideas here? Many Thanks Last edited by fredwest; 10-08-2004 at 04:18 PM. |

Are you using simple file sharing or have you disabled it (folder options)? Disabling it will make it work like Win2K, enabling it will have a mind of its own.

Hi glc,
I disabled all file sharing. Your post suggested simple file sharing. ALL sharing has been deleted as of now. The 'use simple file sharing' option has been un-checked. I'll monitor it so I guess you can close this call

Hi guys, i also have a simirlar issue, i work in pc support and i'v got a couple of pc's that the "use simple file sharing" continuously ticks [enables] itself. This is bad on the network side, cos for me to access the user's computer, i hav to fone them and ask them to 'untick' that "simple file sharing"- whether it be going into their HDD or remote controlling them. Some PC's on WinXP SP2 do this every 15minutes--- & thats very bad!!! Help is very needed,,.. mpho.za |

Just a thought. Make sure that the machines that won`t hold the "disable simple file sharing" setting are formatted NTFS and not FAT32.
