I can’t get into my Desktop – PLEASE HELP!!!
I am using Windows XP Home. The processor is a Pentium 4, 2.8GB. The RAM is 1 GB. Today when I turned on my computer, the ASUS screen came up (as usual), then the XP Windows screen came up with the three green status bars scrolling across from left to right. My computer went to my screen saver screen – BUT, WTHOUT ANY OF MY DESKTOP ICONS!!! I hit CTR-ALT-DEL, and I was able to get into the Windows Task Manager. Here, the Applications tab showed no tasks listed. The Process tab showed 18 Image Names. The Performance tab seems to monitor OK. The Network tab monitors OK, as well. Under Users, it shows my name, with ID=0, Status = Active. At this point, if I click “logoff”, then click “YES” at the next window, I get. “Are you sure you want to log off the selected user?” At this point, the blue Microsoft Windows XP screen comes up, and says: “To begin, click your user name.” When I clicked on my user name, it said, “Loading your personal settings.” Then, the hard drive light flickers and brings me back to the screen saver screen – BUT, WITHOUT ANY OF MY DESKTOP ICONS!!! HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM??? Thank you. Please respond to: gwkremer@bellsouth.net |

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If you can, try doing a virus scan.
