Parallel Win 2K Installation: IEXP Favs & Email Addresses
Disaster struck yesterday and the only way out was to do a parallel (new) installation of Win 2K (this time in \WINNT2, instead of \WINNT).
With the new operation system, I have installed musicmatch and found all my playlists and music (it was NOT a hard drive problem which did me in). I have installed word processing programs and found and loaded files. I have installed the software for my sound card and it all works fine. HOWEVER, I cannot find (and DREAD the prospect that they are lost) my Internet favorites (for Internet Explorer) and I also cannot find my email address book and old email. Anyone know where to look? Surely the parallel operating system did not erase them or write over them. Tom Johnson |

It probably did overwrite them if you used the same username on the new install. All that stuff is in documents and settings\username. There is a CHANCE they are still there if it was smart enough to rename the old profile to \username.something. You need to enable show hidden and system files in your folder options.

FOLLOWUP: I did use a different name for the parallel installation and all the IE favorites, email addresses and mail, etc. were retrievable. If anyone wants the glorious details, add to this posting and I will provide them
