Creating a second Domain Controller on a Windows 2003 Server environment...
Hey.
We have Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard in charge of the network where I work. I wanted to create a backup domain controller (I know, they did away with PDC's and BDC's in 2003, but it's much easier to refer to them as that ). What exactly do I need to enable on this second server. I started up: Domain Controller (for active dir), DNS, WINS, NAT, and DHCP. The problem I am having is that client computer look at this secondary services for DHCP instead of my main server. Do I even need to enable DHCP on this server? Also, if the main server goes down, I would like to have everyone just roll over to the backup domain controller. As it is now, I have to statically bind the servers IP to DNS and WINS to get it to work. Anyone have any suggestions for any of this? Thanks. |
