Server 2003 Backup problems
We installed a Windows 2003 Server at school this fall. The shop that installed it set up the Backup program, but it never worked, so they set up Veritas Backup for a 60-day evaulation. It's worked great, but the 60 days are almost up and we can't afford to buy the full version.
I tried setting up the Windows Server 2003 backup over the weekend and I also cannot get it to work. It gets as far as mounting the media and rewinding the tape, then I get these error messages (might not be word-for-word, I can't read my notes): The device reported an error on request to MS_updateNTmsomidinfo. Error reported. There may be a hardware or media problem. An inconsistency has occurred on the media in 4mdds. Do not append to this media. The event log says this: Backup Status Operation: Backup Active backup destination: 4mm DDS Media name: "Media created 10/9/2004 at 2:33 PM" The device reported an error on a request to MS_UpdateNtmsOmidInfo. Error reported: 11. There may be a hardware or media problem. Please check the system event log for relevant failures. An inconsistency was encountered on the media in 4mm DDS. Do not append to this media. The operation was ended. Backup completed on 10/9/2004 at 2:39 PM. Directories: 0 Files: 0 Bytes: 0 Time: 1 second Error: C: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. ======================= I've used more than one tape and get the same errors with every one. And these are the same tapes that work just fine with Veritas. Any solution will save our school quite a bit of money. Help would be appreciated. (I am doing this logged in as the Administrator, and I have added Administrator to the Backup group.) |
