Acrobat doesn't open after I d/l a pdf file.

I don't know if it is a Adobe Acrobat or XP (sp 1) issue.
When I click on a link that is a .pdf file and choose 'open' nothing happens. I can open the file ok if I go to the cache directory and click on it. I tried a couple of different sites with .pdf files (owners manuals for example), but the same thing. Never had this before.
This is on XP Pro w/sp1 (first time I used it to this extent, I perfer 2k).
Opera Version 7.54, Acrobat V6 basic version (half the size of the 'full').
The SAME version works fine with my 2 other boxes running 2k.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the plugin didn't get added to the spot Opera looks for it. Try the procedure from the Opera website http://www.opera.com/support/search/...x=155&session=

. . . let us know if that doesn't work.

Never had to do that before. I have been using Opera for years!

BTW, it didn't work! As a update; when I choose 'open' the d/l stops! I have to save it first, then open it after ther d/l completes. It isn't as Opera isn't able to open it, it cancels the download when I choose 'Open'!

I had something sorta similar happen today - so this may or may not be the solution. Is the Microsoft Journal Viewer installed? If so, try uninstalling it.

Microsoft Journal Viewer
????? Huh, never heard of it.

Well, now it's working, but I don't know why. I think it was something in the .ini fiile, but I don't know what. It was as soon as the 'open' was clicked it closed out the operation, no d/l. I thought it was a M$ service, but thast wasn't it. I haven't had much experinace with FP since I really don't like it. The only reason it's there was there is a problem with 2k and the pointer & keyboard on this HP Laptop.

The Microsoft Journal Viewer is something that's offered on Windows Update - some people install it without knowing or caring what it is. It's not needed by the majority of users.

This accessory enables users who do not have a computer running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to view files that were created in Microsoft Windows Journal on a Tablet PC.

If you have it installed, it would be in add/remove programs.

. . . looks like there might be a file version conflict between some shared files. This sort of conflict usually is resolved eventually when each of the two combatants release their next versions. . . [of course, then something else interesting can pop up too]

My guess is that the viewer arrived via an automatic update [more common nowadays with the new-patch-every-other-minute climate].

Glad it's working now.

One of the first things I do is turn off ALL automatic features of a O/S or program including auto update. I'm a big boy now and I don't need my hand held to update my system. I will do it when I'M ready, not someone else!

It was something in the .ini file for Opera. It seems to be working ok now. Not sure what it was though.
