Trouble installing MS Office xp 2002
I am trying to install MS Office xp 2002 on my laptop (Compa1 Presario 1700). I keep getting this error message:
ERROR 1305 ERROR READING FROM FILE D:\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\MEDIA\CNTCD1\CNTCD1.MMW Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. I have had no problem installing other programs. The CD seems to be clean. I was able to install it before on the same laptop, but at one point I had uninstalled it. Any suggestions? |

Blow the dust off the CD drive lens and make SURE the CD is clean. This is a CD reading error.

Cleaning doesn't seem to be the problem
I tried as best I could to clean both cd and player. I also ran Test for a Damaged Compact Discto determine whether the compact disc is damaged, following these steps:
1. Insert the compact disc into the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive. 2. Click Start and then click Run. 3. In the Open box, type command and then click OK. 4. At the MS-DOS prompt, change to the CD-ROM drive, and type the following command: dir /s All the files were read with no errors... I have a Toshiba DVD ROM SD-2002 and it has read everything else fine including music CD's and DVD movies. Since it keeps stopping the installation at the same file is there a way of getting it to read that file seperately and continue with the rest of the installation? |

Just because it can read the directory doesn't mean the CD is 100% good. I think you have a damaged CD.

Yes...you are right...I tried to copy the file in question onto my hard drive and it won't copy...an error keeps popping up regarding the ability not to read the file...I'll see about getting a replacement from Microsoft...
